This evening a terrible plane crash on Ambergris Caye claimed the life of Sir Barry Bowen, who was piloting his private plane, and the lives of two employees along with their two children, a three year old and a baby.

The plane crashed at an area south west of the DFC Subdivision in a marshy swampy location. The white single propeller airplane was on its back and rescue efforts attempted to turn the plane right side up in order to remove the bodies from the wreckage.

This is tragic news to the country of Belize. The most sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Sir Barry Bowen.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. today, Judge Emerson Banner remanded Derrick Gideon, Juan Cus and Justin Cassimiro to Hattieville as a result of charges laid upon them in connection to an incident which took place on Sunday, February 21st in San Pedro Town.

An official police report states that on Sunday, approximately between the hours of 12:15 and 1:00 a.m. Gideon, a police officer stationed in Belize City, Cassimiro, a Belize Defense Force soldier stationed on San Pedro Town and civilian Juan Cus visited Juan Perez, a vegetable vendor, who was sleeping in his boat docked by the Old Football Field. According to the report, both officials, who at the time were dressed in civilian clothing, arrived with Cus and explained to Perez that they needed to transport him to the San Pedro Police Department. The three men who were armed with a firearm proceeded to hurt Perez’s grandson, a minor, who was on the boat with him at the time. Perez agreed to go with the officers. However, the report alleges that he was being taken in the opposite direction and not to the Police Department as the officers had stated. Perez was robbed of $650 before managing to escape. Once free, Perez made a report at the Police Department. The report led to the detention of the three men who were arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.

The three men were jointly charged for kidnapping, aggravated burglary, conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and harm. Because kidnapping charges are dealt in the Supreme Court level, all three were remanded to Hattieville Prison until their next court appearance on April 7th, 2010. Gideon was additionally charged for resisting arrest.

The Ambergris Stadium came alive like never before, packed to the max, as the San Pedro Seadogs hosted Shanaiah of Corozal to the first game of the BPFL Closing Season. It was a festive and well organized kick off for San Pedro fans as the spectators were witnesses to great entertainment before and after the match.

The San Pedro Seadogs picked up the first 3 points of the season.

After a brief ceremony, Miss San Pedro kicked the first ball of the game to officially open the closing season. Then came the Seadogs; they stepped on the football field dressed in blue and white and ready to pick up their first big win at home. Even with the big crowd at the Ambergris Stadium, that did not discourage Shanaiah of Corozal as they stepped on the playing field with full force.

Looking into the first half of the game, in the 18th minute of the ball game, San Pedro’s Gabriel “Gabo” Hernandez, surprised the keeper with a right kick outside of the 18 yard box and scored the first goal of the game. Shanaiah tried on countless occasions to come back into the game, but could not capitalize on the opportunities. Then in the 39th minutes of the first half, Angel “Santa Martha” Cantun took advantage of a spot kick and managed to slap in the second goal of the game; San Pedro Seadogs were up by two goals.

In the second half of the game, Shanaiah managed to counter attack and defend their turf for the most part of the 45 minutes. San Pedro on the other hand, failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities but managed to remain in control of the game. The game ended in a 2-0 match.

The San Pedro Seadogs Team!

Congrats to the San Pedro Seadogs and their committee on their first Big W. On Sunday, the Seadog will travel to Belize City for their second game and The San Pedro Sun will also have highlights of the games.

On Febuary Monday, 15 the cafeteria at the R.C.School will open. The children will be able to have hot breakfasts and lunches as well as snacks. This long awaited day is very exciting to the 900 students and parents. This project has many stops and starts, but the results are worth the wait.  In 2009 the San Pedro Social Clubgave the calendar Club a donation towards building this facility. The existing shell had to be torn down and built from the ground up, which took up the donation. From that point on we needed donations and volunteers. Katy Eggert and myself Eve Dirnback decided we could carry this project forward. I left foe Canada for 6 months and Katy went to the states and while there became extremly ill. When i returned six months later nothing had moved ahead. I then began fundraising and with the help of volunteers and my husband, the generouse donation we can now open. From my heart thank you to each and everyone who listened and gave me moral support as well i truly thank you.  In the near future we will have an official opening with special guests. The wonderful people involved deserve to be a part of this as all have made a difference for the children. I helped complete the library at the school as well and have got to know and love the children. These children are so wonderful and need to have a safe and healthy environment.  My next project HOPEFULLY wll be to build a palapa in the school yard 20×30 with tables and seating so that they may be protected from the rain and extreme heat. This will fit in with the cafeteria. It has been my pleasure to have been involved and a part of San Pedro.

With this ptoject of the palapa i will once again be fundraising and hopefully we can make this happen.
